Saturday, 12 September 2026 is Elista's 161st anniversary and the Day of the National Kalmyk Costume (second Saturday of September). The city program runs from morning sports through evening concerts.
At 15:00 a procession in Kalmyk and other national costumes, "City Day: Elista 161," walks from the Central Khurul (Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni) along Yu. Klykova Street to the Pagoda of Seven Days. Children's art-school performances follow at 15:30, then "Songs about Elista" at 16:00. The evening concert "Happy Birthday, Beloved City!" is at 18:30 on Victory Square in Druzhba Park, with Pesni kochevnikov (Songs of Nomads) at 20:00. Earlier in the day: a stroller parade at 11:00 on Gorodovikova Street and the Medved-2026 strength contest at noon on Victory Square.
