Kalmyk Buddhist Temples

Iconic seven-tiered red Buddhist pagoda in the central square of Elista (Lenin Square / Pushkin Boulevard intersection). Not a full monastery but a major sacred landmark and symbol of the Buddhist revival. Contains a large rotating prayer drum believed to purify karma and grant wishes (ritual: spin clockwise three times with donation). Striking architectural contrast to Soviet-era surroundings; popular local and tourist site.
