Badma Menyaev, an associate professor at Kalmyk State University, is running open classes and workshops on the project "Buddhist Manuscripts in the Oirat Language in Collections of the Eastern Districts of Kalmykia." The work is supported by the Foundation for the Promotion of Buddhist Education and Research.
Sessions have already been held at School No. 3 in Elista and at the Yashkul Multidisciplinary Gymnasium. Menyaev discussed methods for working with old texts, the Todo Bichig script, and material found in state, private, and khurul collections, including those in Yashkul District. Over the coming month the project team plans further talks at schools across Kalmykia and at the A.M. Amur-Sanan National Library.
