A delegation of monks from the Indian monastery Drepung Gomang, led by the venerable Geshe Lharampa Lobsang Shakya and invited by the Central Khurul of Kalmykia "Golden Abode of Buddha Shakyamuni," is conducting rituals and constructing sand mandalas in the republic. Construction of a sand mandala of Buddha Amitayus (associated with longevity) began on October 27, 2026, at the Central Khurul in Elista and continues through October 31. The mandala will be on public view until November 15, followed by a destruction ceremony at 10:30.

Lectures on the text "37 Practices of a Bodhisattva" by Gyaltsab Togme Sangpo are held at 18:00 (16:00 on October 31) during the same period. The monks will later create additional mandalas (including of Yamantaka in Lagan and Green Tara in Yashkul) with accompanying rituals and educational programs on basics of Buddhism.

Kalmyk wrestler Ayrat Lidzhiev, a pupil of the T. L. Baldashinov Republican Sports School of Olympic Reserve for Wrestling, won bronze at the international youth Greco-Roman wrestling tournament "Strength of Traditions – 2026," which concluded on October 24, 2026, in Novosibirsk. He competed in the under-51 kg category.

Lidzhiev won several matches en route to the medal round, including victories over Edgar Sherstobitov of Saint Petersburg (6:0) and Rollan Kim of Kazakhstan (4:1). After a semifinal loss, he defeated Saidamir Alimardonov of Krasnoyarsk Territory in the bronze-medal match. Another Kalmyk athlete representing Buryatia, Damdin Mandzhiev, also won bronze in the under-110 kg category. The story appeared around October 25, 2026.

Over the first nine months of 2026, Kalmykia recorded more than 2,000 visits to the School of Diabetes and the School of Obesity and Excess Body Weight. The schools operate at the Regional Endocrinological Center of the Republican Hospital named after P. P. Zhemchuev under the federal program "Fight against Diabetes Mellitus."

Endocrinologists help patients understand the diseases and manage their health independently, focusing on blood sugar control, therapeutic nutrition, proper insulin use, calculating bread units, and accounting for carbohydrates. Adult classes are held at the consultative polyclinic of the Republican Hospital named after P. P. Zhemchuev (Elista, Pushkin Street, 52, office No. 347). Children’s and adolescent classes are at the Republican Children’s Medical Center named after V. D. Mandzhieva (Elista, Rokchinsky Street, 1).

A young endocrinologist, Valentina Marilova (who completed targeted training supported by the Kalmykia Ministry of Health), began work in September. Acting Minister of Health of Kalmykia Arslan Musharaev noted that such programs support prevention, patient education, and training of medical personnel.

Athletes from Kalmykia took medals at a tournament in virtual taekwondo, a technology-driven discipline promoted by World Taekwondo. Participants use VR headsets and motion sensors to control virtual fighters through their own body movements in digital space.

Mikhail Namruev placed second and Adyan Namruev placed third. They represent the republican complex sports school of Olympic reserve, the Taekwondo Federation of Kalmykia, and the "Taekwondo - Elista" club. The discipline has appeared in the Olympic Esports Series, and the first World Taekwondo Virtual Championships took place in 2024, with goals for further development in esports and Olympic contexts.

The new season of the Kalmyk hockey league "Cup of Jungar" opened on the ice of the capital's ice center. The featured derby between last year's finalists, Dynamo-Elista and HC Elista, ended 3-2 in favor of Dynamo. Head of the Republic of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov skated for Dynamo wearing number 28 and addressed players and fans before the game, noting that Kalmyk athletes set a strong example for youth. He also spoke via video link as chairman of the Supreme Supervisory Council of the Russian Kickboxing Federation, wishing the national team success at the world championship in Colombia.

The Republic of Kalmykia championship in national archery for boys and girls born in 2012 and younger took place at Vostochny Stadium in Elista. Ten teams from districts and the capital competed as part of the "Sport Against Drugs" campaign. Octobersky District won the team title with 16 points. Lagansky District took silver after a shoot-out against Maloderbetovsky District, which finished third. Winners and medalists received diplomas, cups, and medals; individual place-getters also received statuettes and certificates.

The Republic of Kalmykia championships in volleyball for men's and women's teams of the 2026-2027 season opened on October 24, 2026, at the Republican Complex Sports School of Olympic Reserve in Elista. First Deputy Head of the Administration of the Head of the Republic and head of the Kalmyk Volleyball Federation Savar Tarbaev spoke at the ceremony, thanking veterans, coaches, players, Head of the Republic Batu Khasikov, the government, and sponsors for supporting volleyball development.

Twenty-one teams are competing: nine men's sides (including Uralan, Keshikteny, Nomads, Lagan, RNG, Uralan-RNG, Dynamo, Yustinsky District, and Khar Gazr) and twelve women's teams (including Uralanochka, Phoenix, Ketchenerovskaya DYUSSH, Temp, Iskra-RKSHOR, Elistinka, Amrkhan, Sansara, Khar Gazr, Onyx, EPK named after Kh. B. Kanukov, and School No. 12). Women's matches began the same day, with Uralanochka facing Elistinka. Men's play started the following day. Men's club Uralan of Elista has already qualified and made its debut in the Russian First League.
